This particular web page is for mail clients that are not
listed on the previous page. Due to the vast amount of differing
programs that students will use on differing Operating Systems,
it is too difficult for the Helpdesk to provide screen shots
and step-by-step configuration for every program out there
that supports IMAP over SSL.
Below is the basic setup configuration you will need for all
mail clients. Please remember, however, that different programs
will phrase their settings differently from what is listed
below. If at any time, please contact the UITS Helpdesk for
assistance with this setup.
- Server Type: IMAP
- IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol.
This is what allows you to view your Huskymail via the
e-mail client, and not on the web.
- Incoming Mail Server: huskymail.uconn.edu
- This is the IMAP mail server which you will connect
to to view your mail. No matter where you are connecting
from, you will need this information to view your Huskymail.
- Outgoing Mail Server: determined by Internet
Service Provider
- This is the server that sends your e-mail. For the
mail to send properly, however, you need to send the
mail through your Internet Service Provider. If you
live on campus, this will be smtp.uconn.edu.
However, if you live off campus and have your own ISP,
you will need to request that information from them.
- ID and Password: These are the ID and
Password for your NetID
- As I'm sure everyone remembers, the NetID is the new
ID/password used for WebCT, ResLife Systems, Proxy,
and Huskymail.
- SSL: Enable SSL for the Incoming Mail
Server in the Advanced Settings
- SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. This allows your
mail, NetID, and password to travel through a secure
connection and is necessary for authenticating the NetID
password.
- For example, in Outlook, the setting is on the Advanced
tab and reads, "Incoming Mail (IMAP): This
server requires a secure connection (SSL)."
Simply place a check mark to select this setting.
