Skybox can be accessed both online (through the browser) or on your desktop (through the application). The application is no longer supported through UITS, however can still be used if needed.

Through the Browser

  1. Go to view.vpc.uconn.edu/portal/webclient/index.html#/
  2. Log in with your NetID and NetID Password.
  3. Unless otherwise specified, set the Domain to UCONN.
  4. You should then be able to log in successfully.

Through the Desktop

  1. Go to VMware’s Webpage.
  2. Select the version best for your computer and download accordingly.
  3. Server address should be set to view.skybox.uconn.edu
  4. Log in with your NetID and NetID password.
  5. Unless otherwise specified, set the Domain to UCONN.
  6. You should then be able to log in successfully.

Basic Troubleshooting

If installation fails for SkyBox, uninstall the application, restart the computer, and re-download and install the program. If the NetID is not working and you are logging in to the correct domain, reset your NetID password.

Workstation

Error Message

The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available. Please contact your system administrator.

Solution

This error message occurs when a SkyBox user has not logged out of a previous session. To resolve this issue, call the UITS – Help Center – (860) 486-4357

Personal Computer

Error Message

The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available. Please contact your system administrator.

Solution

Log off the previous Skybox session and then log back in.

Using SkyBox

SkyBox Online and VMware Horizon Client

Log in credentials – NetID and NetID password

SkyBox Business

Log in credentials – Schools of Business username & password

Available Software

Skybox Engineering

Log in credentials – School of Engineering username & password

In addition to the normal UConn SkyBox, members of the School of Engineering may access the Engineering SkyBox by logging in with their engineering credentials on the ENGR_STUDENT domain instead of the normal UCONN domain. The Engineering SkyBox gives users access to their H: drives (instead of the P: drives present on the UConn domain) and all of the engineering and office software available in the Engineering Learning Centers.

Printing in SkyBox

Printing to HuskyPrint locations is an option available from all SkyBox sessions whether you are using an iPad, Android, Mac, Window client or a web browser (Safari or Chrome)

Printing to a local printer is not possible from iOS, Android, or locally installed network printers currently.

Printing to a local printer connected to your Mac or Windows PC is only available if the appropriate Mac or Windows VMware View Client is installed.

Saving to the P: Drive in SkyBox

  1. Navigate to NetID (P:)Drive
  2. Click on File > Save As > Computer > NetID (P:)

3. The NetID P: Drive is a more permanent form of storage than the networkshare drive used to be. Each student is allotted 10 GB of storage in SkyBox.

 

Saving to a USB in SkyBox

Please Note: Saving to USB in Skybox is only available for the desktop version.

1. Insert a USB Flash Drive into a USB port.

2. Click the Connect USB Device dropdown on the top left of the vPC session window (Note: On MacOSX, hover over the top white bar to access the drop down menu). Click on the USB Device you just insterted.

3. In the lower right a prompt will indicate the driver is being installed. You will then see a second prompt indicating that “Your device is ready to use.”

4. Click Start, click Computer. The USB drive will be accessible and listed as the next available drive letter.

5. Move all necessary files to the window that you would like to save onto the USB. Once this is done, exit the window.

6. To avoid flash drive corruption it is important to eject the drive before you remove the flash drive from the USB port. To Eject the USB Flash drive, right click on the USB icon in the system tray, found in the lower right of the vPC session window.

7.Click on Eject USB Flash for the appropriate flash drive(s) to eject.
